Andrean High School students were invited to participate in Exploring Engineering Technology on Friday, November 9th at Purdue University Northwest, Hammond campus. Students participated in presentations and hands-on laboratory experiences in the areas of: Mechanical Engineering Technology, Environmental Health and Safety, Electrical Engineering Technology and Mechatronics Engineering Technology. They completed a Computer Aided Design project using 3D Parametric Modeling to design products used in Mechanical Engineering Technology. They integrated their knowledge of physics and anatomy to do a variety of experiments to demonstrate the Physics of sound and how to protect themselves from hearing loss. Several modern technologies were used to show how a variety of metals are produced, configured and designed for industrial use. They also competed in a robotics lab, designing, building and coding their own robot to perform functions utilizing programmable logic controllers. Students gained new knowledge of careers in the fast growing industry of Technology, importance of safety, teamwork and cross curricular applications of core courses! Leading the experiences were Emily Higley, Prof. Shoji Nakayama, Prof. Bankole Fasanya, Prof. Maged Mikhail, Rick Rickerson, Jesus De La Cruz, and Deborah Blades.
